The Electoral Tribunal confirms fine to the PVEM and influencers

The Superior Chamber of the Electoral Tribunal of the Judicial Power of the Federation (TEPJF) confirmed on Wednesday the fines that the Specialized Chamber had imposed on the Green Ecologist Party of Mexico (PVEM) and dozens of influencers, for violating the electoral ban during the 2021 elections.
At their session, the judges decided by majority to ratify the sanctions against both parties. In the case of the PVEM, the party will be fined 118.5 million pesos. In the case of celebrities, they will be fined different amounts ranging from 4,481 pesos to 133,000 pesos.

The Superior Chamber concluded that the PVEM and the influencers violated the law, after the latter, in coordination with the party, disseminated propaganda messages in the days before the 2021 elections, when the ban that precedes the voting day was already in force.
The confirmation of the fines was proposed by Judge Indalfer Infante and endorsed by the majority of the TEPJF.
However, the Superior Chamber decided to revoke the order of the Specialized Chamber that sent the influencers to publish on their social media accounts a message in which they acknowledged having violated the law. Nor should they take a course on equity in the contest.

The judges considered that this type of reparation measures for the damage only correspond to human rights violations or to a situation in which a sentence does not remedy the damage committed.
