Sheinbaum accuses opposition of making “political use” of Metro failures

The head of government of Mexico City, Claudia Sheinbaum, accused opposition groups of making “political use” of the failures that have been registered in the capital’s Metro, while ensuring that her administration is working to improve the operation of the entire network.
Sheinbaum made these statements this morning at a press conference held after a tour of the rehabilitation works of Line 12, whose operation was suspended in May 2021 after the collapse of an elevated section. The incident killed 26 people and injured more than 100.
“They are making political use of this issue and (we tell them) that we are doing our job, we are allocating resources, we are making a historic investment in the Mexico City Metro and assuming responsibility for the rehabilitation of Line 12 after what happened,” the local official said Tuesday.

“(For the opposition) everything is no, everything is negative, everything is critical. That they get to work and in any case that they start to be constructive, “he insisted.
After yesterday’s failure on Line 2, which caused service to be suspended for about two hours, Sheinbaum said that the electrical substation that had problems is being reviewed and, at the same time, the Attorney General’s Office of the capital is investigating what happened.
He also assured that she will make tours of the Metro to supervise its operation.

The Head of Government, @Claudiashein, supervises the work of strengthening Line 12 in its elevated part. He reported that the first section, located at the height of the Calle 11 Station, is already finished.

Reopening of Line 12, not yet dated
As for the reopening of service on Line 12, which runs from Mixcoac to Tláhuac, Sheinbaum declined to estimate a date. He only said that the work will intensify.
“We’re going to be reporting every month, we wouldn’t want to give an exact date … I’m going to be coming to do personal supervision,” he said.
The Secretary of Works, Jesús Esteva, reported that for 60 days the authorities will be reinforcing 15 points in the elevated section of Line 12, mainly between The Nopalera and Olivos stations. The official added that traffic will not be interrupted but there will be some detours to traffic.
