Supreme Court delivered list with five names to appoint replacement of current president of the Second Environmental Court

During the afternoon of this Tuesday, the Supreme Court delivered the five names that will compete to integrate the Second Environmental Court, which is considered key to the future of various investment projects in the matter.
As reported by La Tercera and after the plenary session met last Monday, the shortlist was made up of Daniella Sfeir, Marcela Godoy, Mauricio Oviedo, Pedro Silva and Alamiro Alfaro Zepeda.
Only one of the five candidates will replace the current president of the court, Alejandro Ruiz Fabres, once his term in office ends.
It should be remembered that Ruiz was appointed to the position on July 11, 2016 after the approval of the Senate chamber. Previously, he had served as an advisor to the cabinet of former minister María Ignacia Benítez. To this day, he was serving his second term in office, being the first to assume the position twice.
It should be noted that the ministers of the environmental courts are appointed for a term of six years, while the president is elected for a period of two years.
In this way, this list was sent to the President of the Republic, Gabriel Boric, as mandated by the regulations and it will be the President who proposes to the Senate one of the names, which were chosen by the Senior Public Management after the corresponding public tender process.
Now, all that remains is for the Senate to know the candidate chosen by the head of state, and then put to a vote by 3/5 of its members in office. If the instance does not approve the presidential proposal, the President must present another candidate, who will be removed from the same list prepared by the Supreme Court. In case of being rejected again, a new contest must be called.
