Hearing begins for Line 12 case; 10 accused expected to be linked

At 10:00 a.m., the initial hearing for the collapse of Line 12 of the Metro began for the fifth time, which, said lawyer Gabriel Regino, will take place under the slogan from the Head of Government that this Thursday the 10 accused be linked to the process.
“We do not come to an audience, it is a campaign event what we are experiencing today. We come to present 10 innocent people to be the support of the beginning of the presidential campaign of the head of government, Claudia Sheinbaum. Ten innocent people who are oblivious to the tragedy of Line 12,” said the lawyer.
Accompanied by the former director of the Metro Project, Enrique Horcasitas, Regino reproached that the Attorney General’s Office (FGJ) has refused to investigate the lack of maintenance as a cause of the collapse that claimed the lives of 26 people and left more than 100 injured.

“(We are presenting ourselves) so that the Prosecutor’s Office can correctly cover up both Florencia Serranía and those really responsible for these facts, we are doing it so that the corruption of having paid the Government of Mexico City millions of pesos to a French company allegedly in charge of maintenance and inspections and never carried them out is not investigated,” Added.

“I trust the institutions, absolutely innocent and here we are, we said we would show our face and here we are,” says Enrique Horcasitas, former director of the Metro project, prior to the hearing.

At the end of this day, he continued, the ten defendants will be linked to the process “and hopefully it will serve him for the aspirations that he (Claudia Sheinbaum) has to trample on justice and above all use scapegoats and the blood of victims for purely political interests.”
For his part, the former director of the Metro Project said he trusts the institutions.
“(I am) absolutely innocent and here we are, we always said we would stand up and here we are,” he said.
Asked if it is a persecution against him, Horcasitas said that it is not up to him to say it and that on the investigation made by the Prosecutor’s Office he considers that it is wrong.
“What corresponds to me is to provide the evidence, in due course, that proves that I always acted responsibly and that I did what corresponded to me,” he said.

Also upon his arrival, the lawyer Teófilo Benítez, representative of 12 victims, said that this Friday a hearing was scheduled to present more arguments and evidence so that the former director of the Metro, Florencia Serranía, would appear; however, it was deferred until 25 August.
“Coincidentally when the Court goes on vacation,” the litigant reproached.
