New audios released by the newspaper El País show the process of an alleged negotiation between the Attorney General’s Office (FGR) and the former director of Pemex Emilio Lozoya Austin.
The most recent is about the extradition to Mexico of Lozoya’s mother, Gilda Margarita Austin. In the call, the woman marks the father of the former official, Emilio Lozoya Thalmann, to warn him that she will be taken to the North Prison, where she will have a hearing for the crime of money laundering.
“Stay calm, we are all coordinated. The purpose is for you to receive house arrest and for us to have you in the house today,” he says.
Last June, another audio was released where the Attorney General of the Republic, Alejandro Gertz Manero claims lozoya Thalmann that they have promoted an amparo against the legal actions that the prosecutor’s office was taking against him for the Odebrecht case. The prosecutor reproaches the businessman who has sought to promote such a resource without warning and even speaks of a double discourse.
“They did it without our authorization … it’s a mistake… I don’t accept double languages… Don’t put that scumbag in front of you anymore because he’s spoiled things! Put a decent people to defend you, hand…!”, he says in the audio.
In response, Lozoya Thalmann on several occasions apologizes and clarifies to Gertz that he will ask his lawyers to withdraw such resources. Gertz, still in an annoyed tone, demands Lozoya’s father to change his defenders and warns him that, if it does not happen, there could be consequences.
Meanwhile, President Andrés Manuel López Obrador reiterated his confidence in the prosecutor and said he did not want to get into the issue, because the important thing is to know what happened to the cases involving the former head of Pemex and repair the damage.
“I have no opinion on that because it’s a struggle of interests. Mr. Lozoya is accused of giving bribes to PAN legislators and also of handling money in the campaign of Mr. Peña Nieto, it is a matter that the prosecutor’s office is seeing and there is a lot of confrontation, lawyers participate. I don’t want to get into it, just repeat that I have confidence in the prosecutor,” he said.
