Novak Djokovic is on the official list of players registered for the US Open

The US Open, the fourth and last Grand Slam of the season, announced today the official list of registered players, which includes the Serbian tennis player Novak Djokovic, recent Wimbledon champion, whose presence is not assured because he is not vaccinated against the coronavirus. The native of Belgrade, currently ranked 7th in the ATP rankings, is not authorized, for the moment, to enter the United States, because the authorities of this country require foreign citizens to be vaccinated against the coronavirus. I’m a professional tennis player and I want to be where I can play. Politics doesn’t interest me. I have my opinions and what I want is for everyone to have the freedom to choose what suits them best. I would like my decision to at least be respected. If I may, I will be in New York. Otherwise, it is not the end of the world,” the Serbian said in recent days. It is worth mentioning that the authorities of the fourth Grand Slam of the year informed through a statement that they do not have a vaccination obligation for the players, but they will respect the position of the United States government on the entry into the country of foreigners who are not vaccinated. In case the sanitary rules do not change by the end of August, Djokovic will not only miss the US Open, a contest he won three times, but also the Masters 1000 in Cincinnati, where he was proclaimed champion twice.
