Persian: “This is not the time to discuss the Universal Basic Wage”

The application of the Universal Basic Wage (SBU) causes differences between social movements. After Wednesday’s mobilization and the harsh statements of Juan Grabois – he spoke of “blood” in the streets and “looting” – the leader of the Evita Movement, Emilio Pérsico, came to the crossroads: he said he does not see a situation of explosion and affirmed that “it is not time to discuss the SBU.” I do not see a scenario of looting in Argentina because centrally there is social aid and a level of work of the organizations in the territory,” said the official of the Ministry of Social Development, in dialogue with radio Con Vos.Pérsico also pointed out that this “is not the time to discuss” the implementation of a Universal Basic Wage, as demanded by a sector of social movements. “We have a new minister (Silvina Batakis) who has not yet managed to have a week in which the economic variables are sustained,” he described. In that sense, he asked to support the measures of the Casa Rosada. “We must collaborate to give strength to the government so that it can solve the crisis, in the face of this gale that we are experiencing,” he said. And he said: “There is a currency run of sectors that are betting heavily behind their political interests.” On Thursday, the dollar climbed to $337 and hit a new record. In this context, the national Government adopts measures to contain public spending, but, in turn, must face social demands. “The situation is not enough. Don’t tell us that we have to calm the markets, come and calm us down. Why did we put you there? So that there is less poverty, not so that there is more,” said social leader Juan Grabois on Wednesday, in the speech he gave after a new mobilization calling for greater assistance.
