Samuel García proposes progressive tariff to avoid water waste

Samuel Garcia, governor of Nuevo Leon, said he will seek to create a technical council that approves a “progressive tariff” that punishes those who consume and waste water the most.
Through a video shared on his social networks, the governor stressed that the motivation of his proposal is to prevent water from being thrown away in the midst of the environmental crisis that is being experienced worldwide.
“There are segments of the population where raising a peso the rate would be a crime, but there are others, and to those I want to address the following message, the rate is exaggeratedly cheap, for the highest deciles of Nuevo León the water is given away,” said the president.
In addition, Samuel García said that his government seeks with the progressive tariff that no one thinks of throwing away the water and added that “not because you are wealthy you have the right to throw away the water that others lack.”

Nuevo León, I ask you to please listen to this message 🔴 #EnVivo, because the high temperatures and drought that is affecting Mexico and the world, have a reason. We have to do something about it.

Drought in Nuevo León
According to Samuel García, the message of the water tariff is given because “nature is taking its toll and Nuevo León is paying very dearly.
“Today we live a very serious problem of water scarcity, the dams dried up, the wells are not supplying, it has not rained even half of what rained on average the last five years, in addition, the heat is getting worse,” said the governor.
In addition, the president stressed that Nuevo León has spent decades with governments that did not see or address the water problem, so now it is urgent to implement a strategy that addresses it.

“We have that Covid, inflation, the war against Ukraine, the trade fight between the United States and China and all that distracts us from what is most important and urgent to address: the climate crisis,” he said.

Plan 2050
Samuel Garcia said his government is carrying out the 2050 Plan to combat the climate crisis in the state of Nuevo León.
“We are going to act and do what they did not do in 30 years, we are going to look for new sources to obtain water, we have repaired leaks, put reducers in houses that abuse water consumption, we are putting technology so that the issue of pumping closure and opening of pumps is no longer a manual issue,” explained the president.
In his speech, the governor said that it is also intended to study the new irrigation systems as well as implement strategies that help to have a more efficient consumption of water.
“We bet on methods and models of water consumption so that the state industry stops consuming drinking water and manages to migrate to recycled water,” he said.
Finally, Samuel García said that in the face of the water crisis in the state, “it is profitable to hit the government but today we are not for that, today we are in crisis and I assume total responsibility. I trust my team and the 2050 Plan.”
