Argentine director Mariano Cohn to be a juror at the Venice Film Festival

Filmmaker Mariano Cohn will be a judge at the 79th Venice International Film Festival, chaired by Oscar winner Julianne Moore (“Always Alice”, 2014). This was confirmed by the organization of the festival through a statement in which it also revealed several of the films that will be part of the competition. The Argentine director recognized for his work in films such as “El ciudadano ilustre”, “El hombre de al lado” and “4×4”, comes from premiering his latest film “Official Competition”, together with Gastón Duprat in the previous edition of the prestigious event of the seventh art, presented by its protagonists Penélope Cruz, Oscar Martínez and Antonio Banderas.

Cohn will officiate alongside Moore, in addition to the Spanish filmmaker and screenwriter, Rodrigo Sorogoyen, awarded with the Goya Awards in 2019 for best director and screenplay for “El reino”; along with other recognitions that harvest his productions “Mother”, “Stockholm” and “May God forgive us”. Other jurors are the British writer of Japanese origin, Kazuo Ishiguro (winner of the Nobel Prize in Literature in 2017); Italian filmmaker and screenwriter Leonardo Di Costanzo, French director Audrey Diwan (“L’Événement”) and Iranian actress Leila Hatami (“A Separation”).

The jury will be in charge of awarding the Golden Lion for Best Film, Silver Lion, Grand Jury Prize, Silver Lion, Best Director Award, Coppa Volpi for Best Actress, Coppa Volpi for Best Actor, Special Jury Award, Best Screenplay Award and Marcello Mastroianni Award to a young actor or emerging actress. Meanwhile, Cohn is about to premiere “Nada”, a series he directs with his partner and colleague, Gastón Duprat, who will land on the Star+ platform with a cast of figures headed by Guillermo Francella and Luis Brandoni (as in “My masterpiece”), Andrea Frigerio, Gastón Cocchiarale, and the special participation of Robert De Niro.
