Barbosa minimizes acid attacks and tells men are also assaulted

The governor of Puebla, Miguel Barbosa, minimized the acid attacks by assuring that they are “basically injuries”, when several victims of these aggressions have gone through more than 20 surgeries and their lives have been in danger.
In addition, he said that acid attacks are not only against women, but also against men.
When asked about the report that in recent days a woman was thrown acid in the Galaxia colony, in Bosques de Amalucan, he said he had no specific information about the facts.

He reported that the municipal public security secretariat says it is an attack involving his personal circle and that he should have already filed a criminal complaint.
“Surely it will be investigated and soon we will be made aware of the cause that is initiated in this regard, but I have no particular information and the legislation is there,” Barbosa said.
“I see that it is an attack that men and women can be subjected to, please, not only think that women can be attacked, also men and there is enough legislation to be able to sanction this type of thing, they are basically injuries.”

In the state Congress, the local deputy of the PRI, Néstor Camarillo Medina, presented a reform to punish acid attacks in Puebla with up to 21 years in prison and fines that reach 112,256 pesos, but the initiative was turned over to commissions.
In addition, a group of 17 federal deputies belonging to various political parties propose to reform the Federal Criminal Code to establish penalties of five to eight years in prison for those who carry out attacks with corrosive or flammable substances against other people.
Between January and June of this year alone, 47 women were intentionally burned in the country, she said. Political Animal.
It’s not just injuries
Esmeralda Millán was sprayed with acid by her ex-partner, along with three other people, on December 2, 2018, in Puebla. To date there is no justice and one of his main aggressors remains undeterred.
Throughout these years it has required at least 16 operations and still has more pending. Here you can read the story of Esmeralda and also that of Carmen Sánchez, Elena Ríos and Martha Ávila, who were also thrown acid.
Although Barbosa says that the woman who was recently attacked with acid should have already filed her complaint, there are victims who ratified her complaint until 5 years later, such is the case of Elisa Xolalpa, time in which she spent her life between operating rooms and surgeries trying to recover.
Their stories coincide in lack of access to justice and that their injuries have endangered their lives and should be judged as an attempt at femicide.
