Leeds plans to pay tribute to Marcelo Bielsa

Leeds United chairman and majority shareholder Andrea Radrizzani said in an interview with The Athletic that he plans to pay tribute to Argentine coach Marcelo Bielsa, who was a vital part of the English side’s promotion to the Premier League after 17 seasons in the second division. I have long had an idea that I shared with him: to one day build a football university with his name. So I hope he still wants to do it,” the Italian businessman said. He added: “We want to rename our training ground. And that Thorp Arch be called The Marcelo Bielsa Training Center.” On the other hand, Radrizzani referred to the departure of the Argentine coach from Leeds: “I never thought about firing Bielsa. I never thought that situation was going to happen, ever. He was a legend and he is because of what he achieved, but I felt like something was broken and that’s when you have a turning point.” It was face-to-face and unlike all the encounters I had had with him. Normally, meetings gave way to a very long conversation. I always supported him unconditionally. For the first time I saw him speechless, silently. It was very difficult for me too. It was about a man with whom I shared one of the best days of my life. But I needed to be rational and prioritize the club,” the businessman recalled.
