Attacks in Fresnillo, Zacatecas, leave 5 dead

This weekend, the municipality of Fresnillo, in Zacatecas, experienced a violent day, with two attacks that left five dead, one of them a 14-year-old teenager.
According to state authorities, the first attack occurred on Sierra de Órganos Street, in the Lomas de Plateros neighborhood, where armed men allegedly shot four men.

Although reports circulate that three of the victims are teenagers, Fresnillo’s municipal president, Saúl Monreal Ávila, said only one of them was under the age of 18.
“With a person who was, very regrettable, we condemned these facts, but it began to be handled that they were three minors, and I have information that is one, or at least one of 14 years, which is very regrettable,” he said in an interview with Milenio.

The second attack occurred in the Centro de Fresnillo neighborhood, where two people shot two men, killing one and wounding another.
The mayor said that this type of event occupies the security work, as he pointed out that Fresnillo maintains a low crime incidence, where they reported a decrease of 40% last July.
“This type of events of a day, because somehow they overshadow because a certain normality had been happening, we are working with the coordination of police and events like this the truth is damaged, because the criminal incidence has decreased at least in Fresnillo,” he insisted.
“We are asking the prosecutor and the security secretary to find those responsible because all these events cannot go unpunished,” Monreal said.
