President Andrés Manuel López Obrador will send to the Congress of the Union – the first of September – the first preferential initiative in matters of National Guard and public security, informed the Secretary of the Interior, Adán Augusto López.
In the plenary of the parliamentary group of Morena, he warned that the debate will not be easy because there are those who do not share the transformation project and will say “they are going to the militarization of the country.”
He indicated that, if that were the object of the initiative, in the last legislature the constitutional reform could be proposed and it would have been obtained.
He assured that the purpose is to provide the country with a professional police force that guarantees security; In addition, it seeks that administratively and operationally the National Guard can be consolidated.
He added that, in a second part, President López Obrador will send the constitutional reform initiative.
“(Initiative) seeks to provide Mexico with an institution that is effective in the difficult times we face, that is capable of guaranteeing the security of the person and property of all citizens,” he said.

López Hernández indicated that this initiative plans to modify the Organic Law of the Federal Public Administration, the Law of the National Guard, the Law of the Army and Armed Forces and laws of promotions of the Armed Forces.
Before Moreno legislators, he pointed out that the Army has evolved and is no longer the same as the “dark night of Tlatelolco or the Dirty War,” but is a professional one.
Regarding the possible legislative moratorium that the opposition has announced, he said that when there is a majority, such as the one morena represents, “there they are, we must continue working so that the transformation of this country is consolidated.”
