The body of the woman who was found in a subdivision of Mazatlan is not that of the announcer Cándida Cristal Vázquez, reported missing since July 2022, reported the Sinaloa Prosecutor’s Office.

At a press conference, Dámaso Castro Saavedra, deputy attorney general of the state, said that in addition to the identification of the body by relatives, genetic tests were carried out to determine the identity of the victim.
“Once the results of the genetic tests performed on her relatives were obtained, it was determined by expert personnel, specialized in forensic genetics, that it does not correspond to the information of the lifeless body located in said residential, in Mazatlan.”
On the real identity of the woman, the Prosecutor’s Office does not yet have data to determine who it is, and reiterated that no one has come forward to identify or claim the body of that person.
So far, the investigation folder remains open, both of the search for Cándida Cristal Vázquez, reported as missing, and the folder for the femicide of the person located in Mazatlan is initiated.
Confusion in the Candida Crystal case
On August 27, the governor of Sinaloa, Rubén Rocha Moya, said that it was the parents of the communicator who had already identified the body and assumed that it was Candida.
“It’s about her, uh, it was already the relatives, according to what the table (for Peace) informed us in the morning, the Prosecutor’s Office informed us and also the Security Secretariat were already the parents and they identified her and it is that same person … Yes, it is confirmed,” the president said.
For his part, the mayor of Mazatlan, Luis Guillermo Benítez Torres, reported that the woman located was the communicator, but “until the specialist tests arrive, those used for that, we will corroborate it, but everything indicates that it is her.”
However, on the afternoon of August 28, the Prosecutor’s Office reported that it could not yet give certainty that the body found in the subdivision was that of the communicator.
