Alberto Fernández travels to New York today to participate in the UN General Assembly

The President of the Nation, Alberto Fernández, will travel tonight to the United States to participate for the first time in person of the General Assembly of the United Nations (UN), which will be held in New York City next Tuesday. As it transpired, in addition to the foreign minister, Santiago Cafiero, the delegation will be composed of the secretary general of the Presidency, Julio Vitobello; spokeswoman Gabriela Cerruti; the Ministers of Education and Security, Jaime Perczyk and Aníbal Fernández, respectively, and the first lady Fabiola Yañez.Fernández will intervene for the first time in person at the UN Assembly, after having done so virtually in 2020 and 2021 due to the health restrictions derived from the coronavirus pandemic. Although the president will finish defining his speech this Sunday, from the Foreign Ministry they anticipated that the president will call for “dialogue” for the war in Ukraine and a “cessation of violence.” In addition, the condemnation of political violence will also be present in the message, with a reference to the assassination attempt against Vice President Cristina Fernández de Kirchner. The president will also make a claim to sovereignty over the Malvinas Islands and renew the request for justice for the attack on the AMIA.Si he will share activities with the presidents Pedro Sánchez and Emmanuel Macron,  Fernandez is not expected to hold bilateral meetings within the framework of the United Nations summit, given that numerous presidents, including the American Joe Biden, will attend the funeral of Queen Elizabeth II in London. As for his agenda, among other events, he will have a presentation at the Development Bank of Latin America (CAF) and will attend the inauguration of an exhibition of photos of the ESMA that was mounted in the consulate of New York to get UNESCO to declare the former Clandestine Center for Detention, Torture and Extermination a Cultural Heritage of Humanity.
