Governor-elect of Tamaulipas asks to rejoin the Senate

The governor-elect of Tamaulipas, Américo Villarreal, of Morena, asked the Senate to rejoin as a legislator, after he himself revealed that there is an arrest warrant against him.
Villarreal has accused the outgoing governor, Francisco García Cabeza de Vaca, of the PAN, of promoting a “dirty game” for a judge to issue the arrest warrant against him and against elected authorities, as well as members of Morena.

On Monday, the governor-elect of Tamaulipas made public the request that will allow him to recover the jurisdiction with the following message: “Before the onslaught of a government that does not respect the institutions and that seeks in every way to break the order and snatch the will of the Tamaulipas who voted democratically for hope and honesty on June 5.”
Villarreal’s accusation came a week and a half after he assumes the governorship of Tamaulipas for the period 2022-2028. His six-year term begins on October 1.

The accusations come after the federal government has promoted complaints against García Cabeza de Vaca, to whom crimes such as organized crime are attributed.
This resulted in the Attorney General’s Office (FGR) requesting the removal of the Immunity of the PAN politician in 2021, which was approved in the Chamber of Deputies.
However, the Congress of Tamaulipas, where the PAN was the first force, determined to maintain the governor’s jurisdiction, which led to a constitutional controversy in the Supreme Court of Justice of the Nation (SCJN) over whether or not the federal Legislative Branch could withdraw immunity from prosecution from a local official.
On August 17, the SCJN decided to invalidate the arrest warrant and the removal of the immunity of the Chamber against García Cabeza de Vaca.
