Conflict in the pneumatic sector: negotiations failed again and there will be a new hearing tomorrow

After more than six hours of meeting in the Ministry of Labor between the Single Union of Argentine Tire Workers (Sutna) and the tire manufacturing companies, they failed to reach an agreement and went to a fourth intermediate until Thursday. A new meeting is expected tomorrow at 13 to try to unblock the conflict that has been going on for more than six months and that since last weekend has paralyzed tire production and begins to generate conflicts in the automotive chain.

During Wednesday’s hearing, fate, Pirelli and Bridgestone stood firm in their position that there would be no dialogue or proposal to overcome for workers until the blockades are lifted. “You can’t negotiate with blockades,” they said. In this context, Economy Minister Sergio Massa announced yesterday that if the dispute is not resolved, he will allow emergency importation and the stock retained in Customs will be made available to the automakers.” If eventually tomorrow the conflict is not resolved, we will enable companies, manufacturers, as emergency authorized importers and we will enable them to import all the tires they need,” Massa warned.

Due to the wage conflict, the companies of the automotive sector Toyota and Ford announced that from this Wednesday they will paralyze production. For its part, Fiat said it has stock only for 10 more days of production. The extensive conflict, of almost six months, began with wage claims and then deepened with strikes and blockades of the companies. The union rejected an offer of a 38% salary improvement for the period 2022-23, in turn, denounced that the firms seek to impose the closure of the 2021-22 parity and ignore the claims. In addition, the Sutna demands the elevation to 200 percent of the value of the hours worked on weekends, which the companies until now did not accept, union sources said.
