Gallery Weekend opens with 18 exhibition spaces

With a program of free activities that includes events such as exhibition openings, guided tours in artists’ workshops and galleries, mediation activities for children, conversations and digital content, the sixth version of Gallery Weekend Santiago opens this Wednesday, which will be held until Saturday, October 1.
There will be 18 exhibition and creation spaces that will be opened to the public -AFA Gallery, Isabel Croxatto Gallery, Santa Rosa Factory and NAC among them-, giving the opportunity to attend specific events or put together their own tours.
To these instances of face-to-face meeting is added access to digital content such as the documentary “Vicente Ruiz a tiempo real” by Matías Cardone and Julio Jorquera, which will be exhibited exclusively by Gallery Weekend TV during those days.
As in Berlin, Barcelona or Brussels – to name just a few of the dozens of cities where the model works successfully – Gallery Weekend Santiago aims to promote art collecting, to energize the national circuit and also to make galleries visible as spaces open to citizens and fundamental platforms to know the work of local contemporary artists.

Digital Art Show
Nyan Cat – the kitten that crosses the sky leaving a rainbow behind him – is not only one of the most famous GIF’s on the entire internet, it is also a digital object authenticated by the blockchain, for which someone recently paid $ 600,000.
The fascinating – and at the same time controversial – world of NFT’s or Non-Fungible Tokens, opens up infinite possibilities for digital artists and Gallery Weekend Santiago offers an unprecedented platform for those who already venture into it.
Among more than 200 applications, in various styles and formats, 28 digital artists were selected to be part of a physical and virtual exhibition. From September 29 to October 9, the Alonso Building (Alonso de Córdova 3788, Vitacura) – an exemplary project at the meeting of architecture and culture – will host the works, displaying them through 10 screens, and will invite you to enjoy the Kunstmann CraftBar, the official meeting point of Gallery Weekend 2022.
The works in NFT format will be sold on the OpenSea online platform until December 31, 2022.
Prize
Gallery Weekend Santiago will award, as it does every year, the best exhibition among the participating galleries and artists.
The participants are AFA Gallery, Aninat Gallery, Artespacio, Collectio, CV Gallery, Die Ecke Contemporary Art, Espacio218, Santa Rosa Factory, Gallery 3.14, Animal Gallery, Espora Gallery, Gabriela Mistral Gallery, La Curtiembre Gallery, Mother Gallery, Patricia Ready Gallery, Isabel Croxatto Gallery, NAC, TIM Contemporary Art and Alonso Building
The decision will be in the hands of a jury composed of Rodrigo Tisi, director of the Master in Design Sciences UAI; Carolina Delpiano, designer, journalist and artist; Valentina Serrati, media artist; María Alcalde, director of the AMA Foundation; and Maya Errázuriz, researcher and curator.
Audiovisual
There will also be events in audiovisual format. For example, “Vicente Ruiz a tiempo real”, the documentary by Matías Cardone and Julio Jorquera, will be released for free, during the three days of Gallery Weekend Santiago, in www.galleryweekend.cl.
In addition, two audiovisual platforms promoted by Fundación Actual and dedicated to art figures, will coincide their premieres with the dates of GWS. Proyecto Oficio will show the workshop and processes of Antonia Johnson, while César Gabler will talk with an artist who crosses the Middle Ages (in art), Josefina Guilisasti, who opens the fourth season of that space.

Between September 29 and October 1, galleryweekend.cl and the digital platforms of El Mostrador will broadcast a daily conversation led by the journalist, documentary filmmaker and co-director of Gallery Weekend Santiago, Victor Leyton.
The protagonists of this conversation will be María Verónica San Martín, a Chilean artist based in New York, whose media range from engraving, artist’s books, sculpture, to installation and performance; Rodrigo Pinto, Chilean designer who went through the studio of Nacho Carbonell and is currently represented by Side Gallery in Barcelona, Particular in Sao Paulo and Love House in New York; and Paula de Solminihac, a prominent sculptor and ceramist; associate professor of the School of Art at the Catholic University of Chile and executive director of Nube Lab, a foundation dedicated to work in art and education.
