Valparaiso’s Director of Security Disappears

The State Board of Peace Construction and Security of Zacatecas reported the disappearance of the director of Municipal Public Security of Valparaíso, Juvenal Torres Domínguez, and the deployment of an operation to locate him.
“Aerial reconnaissance has been carried out with the helicopter of the Ministry of Public Security and state authorities have established coordination with personnel of the Ministry of National Defense and the National Guard, in order to carry out ground reconnaissance,” it was reported in a statement.
Local media indicate that the director was intercepted by an armed group as he left his home, however the authorities have not confirmed the facts.

The violence in Zacatecas has not stopped.
On September 30, three university students were killed, according to reports from the municipality of Pánfilo Natera, where they were from.
Two days earlier, six municipal police officers from Calera de Víctor Rosales were killed, including the director of the corporation. The elements were exercising in a sports unit when armed men attacked them with firearms, leaving at that time five police officers dead, as reported by the state table of Peacebuilding and Security of the state. Before the facts, the director and deputy director of the municipal police went to the place, who were also attacked. The director of the corporation died while being transferred for medical attention.

Although the government insists that homicides in Zacatecas fell by 51%, the data shows otherwise.
If the number of victims of intentional homicide from January-July 2021 is compared with the same period of 2022 (the most recent month for which data from the Executive Secretariat are available), there is a decrease of 13% in murders, and in terms of investigation folders, a decrease of 11%.
Even in the projection made by the government for 2022, the decrease would not be 51%, but 15% fewer folders (from 1,134 to 955).
