Google: Tourism Habits and Trends in Argentina

Within the framework of the International Tourism Fair of Latin America (also known as FIT), which takes place from October 1 to 4, Google Argentina shares trends in the country’s tourism industry and available solutions so that all people can take advantage of the full potential of technology in their next trip or vacation. In the last year, a reactivation of the tourism sector was detected. This was reflected in the online behavior of people in Argentina. This is explained by Carolina Battista, Commercial Director for the Travel and Tourism Industry for Latin America: “Despite the crisis we face due to the COVID-19 pandemic, 2022 started with a growth in search interest linked to travel and tourism issues in the Search Engine, which remained until today and exceeds the levels of 2019. The growth in search interest when compared to 2019 is particularly significant in the ‘accommodation’ category. The opportunity for all tourism companies is to bring their services closer to more and more people through the digital world.” In turn, he adds: “In this new context, understanding the behavior behind consumers is key to connecting more effectively and efficiently, understanding existing needs and with a personalized strategy.” In this sense, what changes are observed in the search behaviors of travelers in Argentina? Here are three new habits that take relevance in 2022:
One in 3 travelers prefer their own car when planning their vacation, over the plane or the bus. So much so that Argentina is the country with the highest preference for this means of transport.
In the last year, searches for assistance and travel insurance grew +210%. This trend was driven by the restrictions and demands established during the openings of places, establishments and businesses, after the quarantine.
76% of travelers demonstrate concern about high prices and economic situation when planning their trips. In fact, 60% said they were waiting for the next discount event to buy their vacation.

If you talk about the places that generate the most interest in the Search Engine, domestic destinations are the most popular. In this sense, Battista comments: “This was initially encouraged by the sanitary restrictions that we live in different countries, then it was enhanced by incentive programs for domestic tourism such as the Pre-Trip program and by cost issues.” The top 10 locations that are trending for people in Argentina:
Buenos Aires
San Carlos de Bariloche
Mendoza
Córdoba
Salta
Ushuaia
Jujuy
Mar del Plata
San Miguel de Tucumán
El Calafate
