The passage of tropical storm “Karl” through Chiapas left one dead, the evacuation of more than a thousand people and floods, reported the Secretariat of Civil Protection of the entity.
He explained that during the growth of the stream “El Cristo”, located in the municipality of Pichucalco, a 65-year-old person was trapped in his home, was rescued and transferred to a hospital with serious health conditions, and died shortly after.
The agency indicated that in that same municipality, more than a thousand people who were in a religious event were evacuated, in a preventive manner, due to the increase in the levels of the Pichucalco River.
In that area, a 7-year-old boy was also rescued alive, who was reported missing in the span of the emergency.
In addition, 40 families, approximately 120 people, were evacuated due to the overflow of the “El Cristo” stream, which caused floods up to three meters high in five neighborhoods.
At this point, two temporary shelters were set up to provide food and shelter to the families.

Due to the rains caused by “Karl”, in the community of Ixtacomitán there was overflow of streams, which caused damage to homes in the Barrios San Sebastián, Catarina 1st. Section and Nicolas Bravo 2nd section.
While in Ostuacán, at least 35 families were evacuated due to the overflow of the Magdalena River.
In addition, reports Civil Protection of Chiapas, the bridge known as rural city Ostuacán-Sayula collapsed, incommunicado the section. Meanwhile, in Sunuapa, the Platanar vehicular bridge, which connects the Sunuapa-Esquipulas community, was also affected.

“Karl” becomes a posttropical cyclone
The Conagua National Water Commission (Conagua) reported that “Karl” became a posttropical cyclone this Saturday, however, its remnants cause rains in Chiapas, Veracruz, Oaxaca and Tabasco.
Therefore, he recommended that the population take extreme precautions and remain attentive to the calls of Civil Protection and state and municipal authorities.
