How to buy and take care of my data? Tools for the Good End

The offers and promotions for the Buen Fin abound not only in shops and department stores, online purchases will also be in great demand.
In 2021 alone, online sales for Buen Fin generated 31.7 billion pesos, which represented 16.5% of the total sales of last year’s edition.
For this year’s edition, we give you tools to buy recommendations to protect your personal data when shopping online.

Price comparison
The Federal Consumer Prosecutor’s Office (Profeco) published a tool “Who’s who in prices for El Buen Fin 2022” to consult the prices of 489 products, including appliances, televisions or computers that shows the details of the establishment and a graph of the behavior of prices during the last weeks, to know if there really is an offer in the products.
To use it you must select a city and municipality or mayor’s office, a category and finally the product you are looking for.
Faced with the temptations of offers and products, the authorities call on you to prioritize your needs and not buy on impulse, so as not to compromise your financial stability.

With this in mind, sales associations and authorities recommend these measures before clicking on the cart:
Buy durable goods with a longer useful life than financing, if you decide to buy products with a credit card, in addition to not interfering with your ability to cover your basic expenses.
Save invoices and proof of purchase, in case of claim or change.

Identifies seller data, such as physical address, phone number, email address or other electronic form of contact, for possible clarification or refund
Review the total cost of the product including shipping costs and taxes
Check the available payment methods. Review them and make sure you choose the best one according to your needs.
Verify that the sales site has a valid security certificate
That the supplier shows the approximate delivery time and the shipping method, as well as the conditions of return, refund and cancellation
Read carefully the description of the product or service and do not decide only by looking at the photographs

🧐 Be careful! Remember that before buying a product or hiring services online, always check the terms and conditions.

Take care of your personal data
The National Institute of Transparency, Access to Information and Protection of Personal Data (INAI) also advises extreme caution when making payments with debit or credit cards online, as they involve obtaining and using consumer financial data, such as card number, expiration date and security number.

However, you may find applications or portals that ask for a registration in which personal information is requested, which is not necessary or indispensable to buy products and services.
Given these scenarios, the INAI recommends:

Demand and read the Privacy Notice before giving your personal data, to know how they handle the information.
To buy on secure websites, you should check that the electronic address of the business preferably begins with the figure of a closed padlock in green and the initials “https”.
Give your personal data only when the company, business or person who is requesting them is fully identified and informs how they will handle them.
Locate the means to authorize or reject the use of your personal data for advertising purposes.
Beware of offers that condition you to provide your personal data, to share promotions among your contacts, by email, social networks and messaging applications, as they may be scams.
Remove and destroy parcel labels, which contain name, address and/or personal data, before throwing them away or giving them another use after receiving your products.

If they charge you unduly, do not respect the price or deny you a service, Profeco published the numbers 5568 8722 or 800 468 8722 and email [email protected] for nonconformities.
You can also consult the commercial bureau of the agency prior to making purchases, to have information about complaints, procedures and contracts registered with the institution.
