RN Secretary General in favor of AC against Minister Jackson: “In this particular case, we conclude that there is merit”

Assuring that there is merit for the action to escalate to the Senate, the secretary general of National Renewal (RN), Deputy Diego Schalper, referred to the constitutional accusation (AC) that is voted in the Chamber of Deputies against the Minister of Social Development and Family, Giorgio Jackson.
It is worth mentioning that, on the eve of the libel vote against Minister Jackson, the RN bench said that it will reject the “preliminary question” that the defendant’s defense could invoke. In that sense, Andrés Longton, deputy and head of parliamentarians of RN, said that “the AC is absolutely admissible.” Thus, while doubts arise about whether or not that party will support the accusation against the head of Mindes, his bench – which totals 22 votes – became the key and determining factor in the process gestated in the Republican Party.
And, while some RN deputies such as Diego Schalper were in favor of the accusation, others, such as Eduardo Durán, openly expressed their contrary position, causing a series of doubts that cause discomfort among the opposition hosts.

“We as a caucus will vote against the previous question, and once this is over, we will meet and decide how we will vote as a bench regarding the accusation,” confirmed Deputy Schalper, in conversation with Radio ADN. In his opinion, Minister Jackson “has incurred serious shortcomings in the execution of laws relating to children.” Therefore, he was in favor of the constitutional accusation.
For Diego Schalper, the key chapters are chapters 3 and 4, which speak of the “non-execution of laws related to children, which force the Ministry of Development to set in motion specific services, specific offices, and that today, said the RN deputy, have more than 27,000 children on the waiting list to receive dignified attention in terms of children.”
The secretary general of National Renewal also addressed the disagreements within the party, after it was known that at least seven parliamentarians will probably be absent, abstain or reject the accusation. “His time in Congress left much to be desired (as a parliamentarian and minister Secretary General of the Presidency). However, for me these are not sufficient reasons to support, in principle, a constitutional accusation against Minister Jackson, despite having had, as a deputy, a destructive attitude against the Government of President Piñera, “said Deputy Durán.
Recall that the opposition forces have warned that “it would not be free” for RN to drop out of the accusation. However, from the Government they warn that, in case this advance to the Senate, the chances of avoiding impeachment would go from gray to dark gray, because the former minister of the Segpres did not reap good relations with the Upper House.
“We as RN have the peace of mind of having voted against the AC against Izkia Siches, because it seemed to us that there was no merit. But in this particular case, we conclude that there is merit,” said Deputy Schalper. And he added: “We see a minister, who when he was in the Segpres suffered a wake-up call from the Comptroller’s Office for making excessive use of public funds for the Plebiscite, which today has more concrete causes.”
