Cafiero inaugurates the new Argentine embassy in Bangladesh

Foreign Minister Santiago Cafiero will lead the opening of the new Argentine embassy in Bangladesh today, in what will be the first time that a South American Foreign Minister attends that country. According to Telam, the activity will take place from 9 (Argentine time). The head of Foreign Affairs arrived yesterday in Dhaka, capital of Bangladesh, along with a large group of Argentine businessmen, to also lead a trade mission in search of greater exports to a market of 170 million inhabitants. In turn, through a statement from the Foreign Ministry, it was reported that the initiative constitutes a fact of “great geopolitical significance” for Argentina because Bangladesh is located at the crossroads of South Asia, East Asia and Southeast Asia, and is the eighth most populous country in the world. At the same time, the text explained: “Our country was one of the first to recognize the independence of Bangladesh, declared in March 1971. President Juan Domingo Perón enabled the first diplomatic representation on October 30, 1973. The embassy was opened in the city of Dhaka in January 1974 and was closed four years later by decision of the last civic-military dictatorship.” For its part, from the San Martin Palace it was detailed that with the opening of the new embassy in Dhaka and its consular section, Argentina “seeks to exploit the potentialities of the bilateral relationship, mainly in the commercial aspect that has a wide potential for growth, seeking to diversify trade and the Argentine exportable offer, currently focused on oils, cereals, meals and soybean pellets, with a view to meeting the growing demand of the Bangladeshi market.”
