The ATP announced a revolutionary change: there will be no more line judges from 2025

The ATP announced on Friday that, from 2025, there will be no more line judges, since the Line Singing System (ELC) will begin to be used from the aforementioned season to automate decisions on the court. According to the entity in charge of the men’s tennis circuit, with the implementation of this system in all tournaments, it is about “optimizing precision and consistency” on all surfaces and in the final frames as in the previous phases. In addition, the presence of ELC Live on all courts will also provide detailed tracking of players and balls on the circuit, offering an unprecedented amount of data for the analysis of player performance and the development of new statistics in the sport. “Tradition is at the heart of tennis and line judges have played a pivotal role in the sport for years. That said, we have a responsibility to embrace innovation and new technologies. Our sport deserves the most accurate refereeing and we are delighted to be able to offer it across the circuit from 2025.” The ELC was first put to the test at the Next Gen ATP Finals in 2017 in Milan, included in a range of technological innovations, many of which have subsequently been implemented on tour.
