After a day of pickets, the camps will continue in front of Social Development “without time limit”

After a national day of protest with cuts in different parts of the country, in demand of an “increase in social programs and food for community canteens,” the Piquetera Unit decided to maintain the camps on July 9 in front of the Ministry of Social Development “without time limit.” After several fruitless meetings and thousands of empty and unsupplied canteens for four and even five months we find that the officials who attended the meeting of the massive mobilization throughout the country and who finish meeting with the Unit (Piquetera) do not bring any answer or any explanation of why they have emptied the soup kitchens. In addition, they mentioned that: “Faced with the total lack of answers from the Ministry of Social Development, the leaders of social organizations decided to remain in the Ministry of Social Development without time limit” and “if it is necessary to stay overnight to continue waiting for an answer for hundreds of thousands of people who do not have a plate of food to put in the table.” (Telam) Most of the protests were concentrated in the center of the city of Buenos Aires, where this afternoon the demonstrators caused a cut with burning tires on 9 de Julio Avenue in front of the Ministry of Social Development.The package of demands includes an “immediate” response to the “situation of misery, hunger and exploitation”, the “urgent” solution to the “lack of food” in the soup kitchens and tools in the work crews, and the request for an increase in social programs.
