In the last hours, a strong earthquake of magnitude 6.8 shook Morocco and left more than a thousand dead, hundreds injured, destroyed buildings and forced many people to leave their homes. The tremor, according to the Moroccan National Institute of Geophysics, would have begun around 23:11 local time and would have its epicenter in the town of Ighil, located 63 kilometers southwest of the city of Marrakech.In addition, the Ministry of the Interior reported that there would be a total of 1,037 people dead, 1200 injured and it was clarified that it affected the provinces of Al Haouz, Ouarzazate, Marrakech, Azilal, Chichaoua and Taroudant.It was also revealed that it is the strongest earthquake that has hit the African country in more than a century. This is in addition to the fact that Morocco had not suffered a phenomenon of this type since 2004, when a 6.3 magnitude tremor hit the town of Al Hoceima, leaving 628 dead and 926 injured. On the other hand, from Spanish television it was reported that tremors were felt in the Spanish region of Andalusia, more precisely in the cities of Huelva and Jaén.In turn, the UN spokesman, Stephane Dujarric, issued a statement where he made it clear that the United Nations is predisposed to help the Moroccan Government.
