How PRIDE was experienced in Morelia, Michoacán – MonitorExpresso.com

Morelia, Michoacán.- On Saturday, November 22, the traditional PRIDE march was held in the historic center of Morelia. It was after 6 p.m. that, despite the rain that seemed to stop the event, they left together, first a contingent leaving from the height of the Deportivo Ejército de la Revolución, another extension of the parade joined from the Tarascas and many more people were arriving on the route that culminated at the height of the Plaza de Armas, where a stage was waiting. Each person attended for different reasons, within it people were seen advancing for the rights of people who belong to the LGBT+ community, making the struggle visible. But in addition to the political sense and demand that there is in the protests, because this event is not only about demanding the rights of sexual diversity, it is about celebrating what love comes to mean for those who love differently.  Within the event, a feeling of recognition could be observed in those who walk by your side marching, those who are for the first time recognizing themselves in others who in some way have shared those experiences that only LGBT+ people know. He left from enjoyment, from the pride of being part of sexual dissidence in the face of that gaze that ignores other realities. Texts such as “My friend committed suicide for your cause”, “Mom, loving is not a stage”, “In bed the revolution is made” and the meaning that each person can capture through letters on a cape, a flag or a cardboard. Marching means for many to recognize yourself in others and see that you are not alone, it is to find the hug you want from your mother found in the one who carries a sign “hugs from mom are given” or to find those stories of acceptance of those who could not understand their children and now walk along Madero Avenue on their side as a sign of support. When they reached the end point of the Pride march, people sang and danced to the music that came out of the stage, where contemporary dancers, a folkloric ballet of sexual diversity, as well as different people who carry out activities that are linked to the movement such as drag and other local talents were presented. While waiting for the participation of the main artists who would be brought by the Morelia City Council, people could be seen celebrating with their companions, dancing a bull to the sound of band music and even meeting new people or attending a module where marriages were being carried out in a symbolic way as an activity of the civil registry or performing an HIV test. The event by the City Council of Morelia, presented people like Roberto Carlo, in addition to the music of Dj Alvarado that made the people of the place dance, opening the way to the next event on the list, the presentation of the group Locomía, who performed around 11 p.m. moving their fans to the rhythm of songs such as locomía and Party Time.  The celebration culminated with PRIDE Michoacán’s gratitude to the City Council and the people who accompanied them, who retired at the end of the event to their homes or to continue celebrating diversity in the bars in the area.
