After the Colombia National Team lost to Argentina 1-0 in the final of the Copa América, fights began between supporters in Bogotá and Ibagué that left five dead. The fifth murder occurred in Ibagué, a city located about 200 kilometers southwest of the capital. According to the final balance presented by the Bogotá Metropolitan Police, the balance of the Copa América final included 9,865 calls to the emergency number 123, 1,565 disturbances to the tranquility and 1,322 fights, all of them on public roads, with five captured. In addition, three firearms, 14 cell phones and 118 sharp weapons were seized. The director of the National Police of Colombia, Brigadier General Nicolás Alejandro Zapata, said: “At the moment what we reported from yesterday until this morning is a complete part of tranquility.” In total, there were more than 5,000 calls associated with fights, and in public and private gatherings across the country, 1,200 fines were issued and 25 people were arrested. The most serious excesses occurred in several neighborhoods of Bogotá and in the neighboring municipality of Soacha due to fights between fans, which were controlled by the police.
