Mexico.- Andrés Manuel López Obrador president of Mexico, acknowledged that he had differences with Carlos Urzúa, who yesterday resigned from his post as secretary of the Treasury.
The former official also had disagreements with Alfonso Romo, head of the Office of the Presidency, the representative noted at his “morning” press conference.
It detailed that the differences were, inter alia, in the development of the National Development Plan. In that regard, he narrated that when Urzúa presented him a proposal that he did not accept because he had a neoliberal vision, which is a different project and contrastto the one he pursues.
“It was as if he had done it (August) Cartens or (Joseph Antonio) Meade,” he exclaimed; “we have different conceptions.”
López Obrador also indicated that the differences between the former Secretary of the Treasury and Alfonso Romo were in the direction of the development bench, which the president commissioned from his head of office.
Specifically, he added, Urzúa did not agree on the appointment of the director of the National Financial Officer (Nafin), Eugenio Nájera Solórzano.
The former owner of the Treasury also had disagreements with the director of the SAT, Margarita Ríos-Farjat, and with the former director of the IMSS, Germán Martínez; the president even commented that the addressee of Martinez’s letter was just Urzúa.
On the other hand, the federal representative ruled out that there was any conflict of interest with the officials of the Treasury, as Urzúa accused, and ruled out launching any corruption investigation because he said he saw no evidence.
López Obrador stated that when Urzúa informed him of his resignation, he told her that they should make it public next Saturday to avoid affectation in the financial markets.
However, the executive owner said no to him and to inform the public at once, for the sake of transparency and making public life more public.
“There was no need for sabotes,” he said, referring to past governments making decisions at the weekend so as not to draw as much attention.
In addition to this, he said respect Urzúa and celebrate his attitude, as he wants a team that can say ‘no’.
“It also has to do with character, everyone has his character, I celebrate much that, in Carlos (Urzúa), in Germán (Martínez); used to be saying ‘yes, sir’,’ he said.
