Traffic accidents left nine dead over the weekend

After the Christmas celebrations, Carabineros delivered yesterday a new balance of traffic on the roads, reporting the death of nine people in accidents throughout the country. Between Friday and yesterday more than 185,000 cars left the capital and it was expected that during the Sunday day about 100,000 would return to the Metropolitan Region.Taking into account that important figure, Colonel Juan Carlos Rodríguez, of the Prefecture of Traffic and Roads, called to avoid traveling between 2:30 p.m. and 8:30 p.m., since that is the preferred time range to move in the direction of the capital. In addition, to encourage early return, the “toll to luca” was implemented between 8:00 a.m. and noon. Regarding the number of deaths, of which six lost their lives on Friday and three on Saturday, Rodríguez said that “it is an important figure that we must analyze and we must question, because throughout the year more than 77 thousand traffic accidents, more than 1,600 people died in these, it is a very high figure, we must call drivers to drive responsibly.” The colonel stated that the three main causes of traffic accidents are the consumption of narcotics or alcohol by drivers, lack of attention to traffic conditions and failure to maintain an adequate distance between vehicles.” Driving with alcohol intake never goes hand in hand. Keep a reasonable and prudent distance from the vehicle that precedes you and be attentive to traffic conditions,” the carabinero added.
