Morelia, Michoacán. – About 25,000 books were collected by the Jalo for Reading Festival, organized by the Government of Michoacán, with which cultural days will be held in public squares in different regions of the state and will be distributed in reading rooms, book fairs, women’s shelters, penitentiaries, Ceibas and spaces of the state DIF, said in a statement. At a press conference, the Secretary of Culture, Tamara Sosa Alanís, thanked all the people who exchanged their books for their tickets to the free concert of Los Fabulosos Cadillacs. “We want to thank them enormously for their contribution to this strategy to promote reading by the Government of Michoacán.” He said that, of the 24,776 books collected, 4,512 were concentrated in the bookstores of the Promotion of Economic Culture. With them, cultural days will be held in the regions of Tierra Caliente, Purépecha, Bajío, Lerma-Chapala, Sierra Costa and Cuitzeo, with dramatized readings, storytelling, didactic concerts and talks with writers. Sosa Alanís added that the work of the volunteers who promote reading in Michoacán will also be strengthened, as well as the collections, seeds and complementary and reading clubs. The press conference was attended by the heads of the Secretariats of Tourism and Economic Development, Roberto Monroy García and Claudio Méndez Fernández, respectively; and the director of the Michoacan Youth Institute, Pedro Alexis Velázquez Guzmán.
