A phrase that always repeats Sebastián Piñera is one that Pedro de Valdivia wrote to the King of Spain, in which said he “saw a majestic mountain range, which was down a fast-paced River, which was lost dash toward e l sea”.
In fact, he was so sure of its origin that challenged a section of the newspaper El Mercurio, where unmask false news.
After a thorough investigation, which included three national historians, it was determined that Pedro de Valdivia never wrote that phrase to the King of Spain, in any of his 11 letters and a report attributed to the conqueror.
Mario Orellana, award national history and recognized as one of the greatest experts in the country in the character charts, confirmed that the appointment “does not appear anywhere in the letters of Pedro de Valdivia (…) Reading all the letters, there is no any similar to this, any sentence”.
From the Presidency argued that Piñera took these words “in a column written by the architect Cristián Boza, extracted at the same time of a critical commentary on the work the Foundation of Santiago de Pedro Lira”.
This text was published in April 2016, but the President has used this quote at least since 2001 in various speeches, interviews and letters to the director.
