on 3 October 2016 Monday dressed in black. Thousands of women were mobilized in Poland against a draft law that prohibits abortion and provides for jail sentences for those who practice it.
Poland: Black Monday – 3 October 2016 the day consisted of a “stoppage of women” and protests in major cities of the European country where it asked for the right to decide about their own bodies and greater sexual freedoms. On September 23 of that same year Parliament had initiated the procedure to ban abortion, imprisonment for women who practice it, higher penalties for doctors and up to the beginning of investigations in cases of miscarriage.
The initiative was approved thanks to support from law and justice, Catholic and conservative-right party which governs Poland. This was what caused that it convened to protest through social networks. In Poland the legislation in force (since 1993) on voluntary interruption of pregnancy is the most restrictive in Europe. It allows the realization of the abortion in case of rape or incest, when it poses a risk to the health of the woman and the fetus has severe malformations.
