Morelia, Michoacan.-the Deputy of the parliamentary fraction of the institutional Revolutionary Party, Adriana Hernández Íñiguez, he proposed to the plenary of the Congress of Michoacán, the Regulation of the marketing, sale, distribution and supply of cigars, which includes the prohibition of loose cigarettes or packages containing less than 14 units or more than 25 units.
Data exposed by the legislator in Tribune, show that 17.4 percent of the Michoacan are smokers, and that 211 thousand smoke daily and other 344 thousand occasionally, being the tenth number entity third in the prevalence of tobacco use in population from 12 to 65 years with respect to the 32 States of the Mexican Republic, according to the national survey of drug use, Alcohol and tobacco, (ENCODAT).
The MP justified his initiative by the need to improve the rules on the control of tobacco, since in Michoacan does the ban for the sale of loose cigarettes nor much less the establishment of sanctions as occurs in other entities of the Republic, as Oaxaca, Veracruz, Chihuahua, Zacatecas, Baja California, Nuevo Leon, Yucatan, Sonora and Sinaloa.
Therefore, Hernández Iñiguez proposed to modify the law of protection of non-smokers, to prohibit the sale of cigarettes by unit, as well as other provisions that include the prohibition of the sale of products with tobacco in any establishment unless 200 meters from educational institutions.
