translated from Spanish: “The police need much more and much faster”

In the middle of a process of transition to broadband systems, Airbus will present at Expo security this year a series of innovative solutions to ensure the police with better communication tools.
In an interview with Newsweek Mexico, Fred Gallart, CEO for Mexico and Latin America of Secure Land Communications, business unit of Airbus, us details about this transition process, as well as the benefits that will represent this change.
-How will the transition process bandwidth broadband in Airbus?
-This is a project in which we have been a couple of years, not only for Airbus Mexico, but SLC (Secure Land Communications) worldwide. We’re seeing a transition from narrowband to broadband in all countries of the world; There is a significant demand in public safety broadband networks, because actually the police already needs much more information, faster, in which the narrow band cannot satisfy it. The narrow band was designed for voice, broadband was designed for data, voice, video, and many other things.
-What are the challenges for Airbus in this transition?
– As an innovative company we want to go much more quickly than the market actually wants to go, for example. We will be the first to launch the broadband services in public security with the Virtual operator which will launch on May 5 in Expo security and already have several customers, which we will be announcing, will already be with us. Yes, we believe that the market is not going to abandon narrow band, but there is a rapid acceptance of broadband services.
-What are the benefits of this transition for the client?
-Be able to transmit PTT, or voice, of mission-critical directly, in-band broadband, to have a conference call directly from a smart device, be able to transmit video directly from the scene of the crime for which, when the other police officers or other public safety elements arrive, do so prepared with the tools to fight crime, or report the crime that is being registered at that time, at the same time, to have individuals who are connected from anywhere in the world, directly without being in the ecosystem in the country. For example, if the Secretary of public security of the city of Mexico is traveling outside the country, it directly with your device will be available in the virtual network that we will be releasing, it can be connected anywhere in the world without any problem. It gives you the possibility of being completely mobile wherever you have access to a 4 G network or be able to access a wifi network that has the ability to transmit data.
-Will bring down the borders?
-Definitely, it is incredible, but they demolished the boundaries significantly.
– And still the communications security, guaranteed?
-The communications security is guaranteed 100 percent, all the solutions we bring to the market come with encryption end-to-end, i.e. from the moment that you have your device and are within the ecosystem of Airbus have guaranteed the fully encrypted security. Now, you can open communications with other networks, open to other networks – if you don’t have our implementation that guarantees the network encrypted – Yes is the opportunity to be heard in some form or another.
-Said that enough interest in our country to adopt this technology, there were already but what so big or viable is the change fast in this matter?
-Today, both here as in other parts of the world as the United States, France, Switzerland, England and Mexico, already being used tablets which are connected directly to the network Telcel or AT & T, what we’re going to bring to public security is a network that is fully encrypted, safe on that same platform. What do I mean? Being a secure virtual network operator, we are going to be able to buy the ability to access this superhighway, where we are going to guarantee what is end to end encryption so that public safety users can use it. Morelos and Queretaro already use Telcel networks to report crimes and use the approved police report and see a great trend for officer public safety that is in the street start using all the police report approved directly in a tablet to avoid having to go to the headquarters to report the crime. From the scene of the crime he can document the information directly captured in the field and get on the network if no problem.
-Products are going to present at the Expo security?
-The update of the national network of radio communication which is a TETRAPOL technology. We will also present a new touch portable Repeater to be used in the national network of TETRAPOL Radio communication and are going to launch the virtual network operator; We will be the first secure virtual operator that will operate here in Mexico and will announce two clients on Expo security.
-These products are already implying an improvement in public safety?
-In what it has to do with the National Guard, if you want to, from one day to another, you can begin to use the national radio network because it is in the 32 States, or you can start using the virtual operator since May 5. Not only that, the Federal Police will start to use, before the end of the year, some of these devices, but it would be good that the National Guard, but also the Attorney General of the Republic, to use these services, because a prosecutor coming to the Street don’t want you with a radio, but with a smart phone for not disclosing that he is the Attorney General, then the smart phone is like a radio extended to the virtual network.
-What Airbus products differ with those of their competitors?
-Both in band narrow as broadband, which is what we are going to announce, broadband all products or all solutions are 3GPP, i.e. are all approved for any device can be used at any of the networks. The big difference is the application that is placed inside the device, because we are not going to manufacture the device, what we will do is to offer security services end to end inside Android devices that are approved for use our application of public safety.
-This safety Expo also wants to put emphasis on private security, is there a way that the Airbus teams adapt to these requirements, not just Government?
-Our solution will first be to Government because in reality the business plan was focused and our rotation has always been Government. Now, we have discovered that there are many companies that need critical communications, within the ecosystem or in the area of private companies, and yes it is our intention to launch a service that is specifically for these companies in the middle of the year, and there are several transportation operators, for example, they need communications; different individuals within the private sector that need to be completely private communications. As companies such as Pemex, CFE, which need to communicate from one place to another. Mexico is experiencing network shared, but frankly the shared network implementation and deployment in a near future of 5G will open up a world of the internet of things, will open up a range of opportunities within this solution which we are bringing to market.
-Speaking of what’s coming, what comes for the future in the field of communications of this type?
-The race for 5G has started, not only that, was reading an article which questioned who was in front, who is back; I think that it is very difficult to determine today who is ahead and who is back because everything depends on the budgets of the different companies, but definitely walking 5 G is going to give these companies a much broader ability to offer others services and solutions much faster.
-Then the future is optimistic…
-We are very excited about what comes in the near future, not only here in Mexico, but in the rest of Latin America and the world. I think that there are interesting opportunities that are according to my colleagues in Europe and also in Asia we are following, then we are very eager to so it comes and I believe that it will be a very interesting business that we will transform, and cute it us that pud is IMOS have the vision to see that that would change to Mexico and we are already investing, we have invested lots of money in the virtual network operator and I think that the way we are going to deliver to the public security institutions here in Mexico is as Mexico wants to see these solutions .
