The U.S. Department of Transportation ordered this Wednesday (15.05.2019) The suspension of air services between the country and Venezuela, citing as a reason their concern for “safety conditions”.
“With the approval of the Secretary of State and in close coordination with the interim Secretary of Homeland Security, Transportation Secretary Elaine L. Chao issued an order to suspend air services between the United States and Venezuela,” reported Department in a statement.
This announces the “immediate suspension” of all flights, commercial and cargo, to and from Venezuela, to what he considered “conditions” that threaten the safety of travelers, aircraft and crews, citing information of altercations and riots in Around the country’s airports.
Many international airlines had already stopped flying to Venezuela because of security concerns and disputes over the money that, according to the Venezuelan government owes them. American Airlines Group Inc, for example, the largest airline providing services between the United States and Venezuela, announced in March that it suspended its flights indefinitely.
In April, the U.S. Federal Aviation Administration banned US air carriers from flying below 26,000 feet in Venezuela’s airspace.
