Morelia, Michoacán.- Through a statement the municipality of Morelia informed that in order to use the force of art to create an awareness of water care, transform the actions of society and improve the tourist and economic conditions of the region of the Lake Cuitzeo basin, the municipal president of Morelia, Raúl Morón Orozco, presented at a colloquium in Mexico City, the “Its” project.
The Lake of Cuitzeo, the second largest in the country, is experiencing severe pollution problems, the presence of water lily and tule, derived by the discharge of wastewater from the 21 Michoacan municipalities and 5 guanajuato that are located around the mantle, in addition to the waste of various companies in the industrial sector, so the approach to a strategy for its rescue was urgent.
“Its”, a word used to refer to water in the purépecha language, is aimed at detonating the growth of the area, generating resources for the care of the basin and the change of habits regarding the management of the liquid by the soc Iedad.
Morón Orozco, announced that for this purpose, it will be organized every 17 June, starting in 2020 and within the framework of the International Day of Combating Desertification, a World Festival of Art, which will be inaugurated with 3 colossal sculptures, in 3 of the 26 municipalities colin elected on the basis of a sustainability competition.
With this measure, it is intended to enhance the tourist attraction of the area, for which there is already commitment with 29 sculptors interested in integrating into the project, in addition, that it is planned to gather an annual fund, through contributions from sponsors, to grant it equally to localities that work best for the environment.
The meeting also covered the aspects to be taken into account in areas such as physiographic, hydrological, environmental, sociodemographic and anthropological, decisive for the integral recovery of the lake.
Authorities were also cited in the colloquium as: Senator Eduardo Murat; the President of the Water Advisory Council, Victor Lichtinger; in addition to the municipal presidents of Lagunillas, Cuitzeo and Yuriria.
