translated from Spanish: Deputy Sofia Cid (RN) asks for specialized unit for SMEs in the General Treasury of the Republic

Due to the absence of a specialized section in the care of micro, small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) within the General Treasury of the Republic, it is that Meputy Sofia Cid (RN) presented a project of resolution for the entity to establish a unit that responds to the particular requirements of each of them according to its legal nature, and not to be put on the same scale as large companies, especially when they face economic cycles Unfavorable.
The project, which was unanimously approved, could bring about a real change in the treatment of micro-entrepreneurs, understanding that “they are the engine of the economy”, the Member for Atacama needs.
In this sense, he adds that the contribution they make goes beyond the economic field “where the emergence of a large middle-income sector is closely linked to the entrepreneurial spirit that is realized in an SME”, he says.
Of the total companies in Chile, 51.9% are SMEs, while micro-enterprises reached 44.9%.
“This figure highlights the role that both play in our economy and in the generation of employment in Chile,” said MEP Sofia Cid.
In the same vein, he added: “Here there is a need to have specialized units or programs to interact with this group of economic actors, even more so when unfavourable economic cycles appear falling SMEs into insolvency or cash problems to make tax payments. But despite them, SMEs tend to pay their debts even in the event of going down.”
It is in this context that Sofia Cid argued her initiative: “In the case of the TGR there is no specialized unit responsible for coordinating the treatment and monitoring of the collection processes of these companies, no longer taking into account the characteristics and peculiarities of SMEs when they are debtors of tax obligations, so in practice, collection is only organized according to the amounts and without considering the legal nature of the debtor, nor their quality of micro, small, medium or large enterprise” .
Explaining this point, the Member for Atacama stressed that today the collection is ordered only by amount of the debt, and that it is very different, for example, that a large company owes 5 million pesos to an SME.
Finally, Meput Sofia Cid hopes that the Executive can pick up this initiative and turn it into a bill, since this modification involves incurring tax expenses, so it is the exclusive power of the President to be able to advance in the matter.
“We need to pave the court for SMEs,” he concluded.
