Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro received tonight the High Commissioner of the United Nations Human Rights Organization, Michelle Bachelet, at the Miraflores Palace. The meeting is part of the former Mandataria’s visit amid the political crisis in the country and was repeatedly requested by opponents of Maduro. Bachelet was once accompanied by officials from the international body. Thus, after the meeting, Nicolás Maduro argued that it was an “intense three-day visit”, where Bachelet had “full freedom to meet with all the political and social sectors of the country, institutional, to listen to all situations, all opinions,” he said, According to La Tercera. In doing so, he reiterated that the dialogue between the two was positive. “She has been attending the invitation that the Bolivarian government I chairmade to her last year, to try to establish a new kind of relationship with the office of the DD High Commissioner. HH., to try to spend that hard experience we had with the former high commissioner,” he replied. In addition, regarding human rights issues, Maduro insisted that “we will prosecute anyone who violates human rights. I’ve given you all my guarantees as head of government,” he concluded.
