translated from Spanish: “El Chapo” money will be from whoever finds it first, experts say

Mexico.- The president of Mexico, Andrés Manuel López Obrador, has unveiled on Thursday that the government will try to recover the funds and assets confiscated from the drug trafficker Joaquín ‘El Chapo’ Guzmán, sentenced to life in prison in the United States.

“I listened very well to the lawyer who said that the confiscation of property for Justice is for Mexico and the matter will be reviewed,” the representative said.

He has thus agreed with the drug dealer’s recent statements.

“He maintains that in any case these goods belong to Mexico. I think the U.S. government will agree to hand over the money to Mexico,” he stressed.

López Obrador has further stated that the way to recover these funds will be analyzed, although he has added that if the confiscation of them is not legitimate “will not be accepted”.

“Before it was said that this character, this gentleman, this person, was among the richest in the world and did not agree, I consider, to reality, higher figures were given when there were influence dealers with much more money, but there was this valuation for reasons policies or advertising, we must see with honesty and seriousness the wealth,” he recalled.

But the U.S. government also demands the money, valued at $12.6 million as compensation for trafficking thousands of tons of drugs to the United States.
According to experts, the treasure of “El Chapo” Guzman will be from the government that locates the money first.
The former leader of the Sinaloa Cartel was sentenced to life in prison in the U.S. on Wednesday for introducing large quantities of drugs into the country.
‘El Chapo’ has been sentenced to life in prison on eight counts of drug trafficking and organized crime, 30 years in prison for armed with arms and another 20 years in prison for money laundering.
The main charge is a drug trafficking offence that has been ongoing for 25 years. It is estimated that in this time he moved 528,276 kilos of cocaine, 423,000 kilos of marijuana and 202 kilos of heroin.
This court decision ends more than two years of trial and nearly three months of trial in which 56 U.S. government witnesses and only one defense witness has testified.
