In the first fortnight of July 2019, the National Consumer Price Index (INPC) showed an increase of 0.27% compared to the previous fortnight, with which inflation at an annual rate stood at 3.84%, its lowest level since January 2017.
In the same period of 2018 the results were 0.32% fortnightly and 4.85% per year, according to the National Institute of Statistics and Geography (Inegi).
The fortnightly inflation was due to the rise of some agricultural products, gasoline and tourist services in connection with the summer holiday period.

Products with rising prices in the first half of this month were: chicken, onion, low-octane gasoline, air transport, potato and other tubers, avocado, packaged tourist services, orange, lunchbox, fondas, torterías and taquerías, and lettuce and cabbage.
In contrast, the products with lower prices were: tomato, chayote, grape, egg, other cooked foods, skin creams, toys and board games, LP domestic gas, green tomato, and women’s blouses and T-shirts.

The Underlying Price Index (goods and services) rose 0.17 per cent in the fortnight, according to data from the Institute.
While the non-underlying price index (energy and government-authorized tariffs) advanced 0.60 per cent.
The Inegi noted that the price index of the basic basket recorded an increase of 0.15% fortnightly and an annual rate of 2.99%, while in the same fortnight 2018 the variations were 0.28 and 7.28%, respectively.
The entities with above-average price variation of national inflation in the first half of this month were: Oaxaca, Tabasco, Aguascalientes, Nuevo León and Colima.
