translated from Spanish: “We haven’t decided”: Government remains uncertain as to whether it will be played by eliminating parliamentary jurisdiction

The proposal to eliminate parliamentary jurisdiction is not an issue for the Government to have decided to include it in the institutional reform package under preparation.
This was made known by the spokeswoman of the Government, Cecilia Pérez, after the meeting of President Sebastián Piñera with the presidents of parties and deputies of Chile Vamos in Cerro Castillo. “We have not decided and it is not something that is definitely contemplated,” she said, noting only that this is a package measure for the Executive.
“We believe from what we have heard, of the contribution we have received, that the jurisdiction is seen by the public as a privilege that does not ultimately say relationship with equal conditions of all citizens. But it’s something we’re studying, it’s not defined,” he added.
The idea of eliminating parliamentary jurisdiction has been highlighted by personalities, such as former prosecutor Carlos Gajardo, for whom “it has no justification and constitutes a procedural privilege that undermines equality before the law, would be a correct measure to eliminate it”.
Meanwhile, former senator Lily Perez said that “it is to be expected to be concreted, for this is an unnecessary privilege”. In turn, Senator RN Andrés Allamand pointed out to Radio Cooperativa that “I too am in the line that it should be eliminated, today there is this system so strange, in the sense that a very old institution is maintained, the themes of dearest occur, subsequently the whole judicial process comes.”
Cutting parliamentarians
What the Government has decided is to reduce the number of parliamentarians, an initiative that has led to rejection by opposition sectors in Congress and thus was endorsed yesterday in the speeches of the presidents of the Senate, Jaime Quintana , and the House, Ivan Flores, yesterday during the Public Account of the National Congress.
“There is an agreement that the President made present in the public account last June, where we have pointed out that we do not agree with the number of parliamentarians that exist today, we believe that the reform that was done seeking greater representativeness has not gone from the hand with efficiency, the efficiency that Chileans need and we share it with our coalition,” he said.
