The Endoscopic Operative supports the help of all endoscopists in the Coquimbo region to perform up to 150 free procedures. The initiative, organized by the Chilean Association of Digestive Endoscopy (ACHED) and Gatronorte, is being developed at the Hospital de La Serena and will end this Saturday, August 3.
The operation aims to decongest the waiting list in hospitals in the Coquimbo region and detect early patients with gastric cancer and pre-cancerous lesions.
“On this occasion they will prioritize the waiting list of the regional repository at the Hospital de La Serena and will focus on patients between the ages of 50 and 60, a segment with the highest prevalence of gastric cancer. This initiative is undoubtedly part of the challenge of our Service, to incorporate strategies to solve the health problems of patients in the region and to unify opportunities for early detection,” said the Head of Hospital and Demand Management Coquimbo Health Service Jessy Hernandez to La Voz del Norte.
The initiative is supported by Japanese experts from medical centers in Tokyo, Osaka, Fukuoka and Kobe. The Endoscopic Operation has been in place for four years.
According to who, gastric cancer is the fourth highest incidence in men and women in the world. In Chile, the disease is one of the first causes of death, the detection, in 90% of cases, is done when the cancer is already at an advanced stage.
