“Women in the third decade of life should have special attention as they face changes in their physiological processes,” nutritionist Paola Zarza told Efe.
The Mexican specialist explained that when the woman is over 30 years she undergoes changes such as the decrease in basal energy expenditure and the metabolic rate. And from the age of 40, a woman can gain up to 2.5 kilograms over a three-year period.
“Metabolism tends to decrease by 0.4% a year, which leads to an inherent weight gain and fat accumulation that makes them prone to disease as age progresses,” she said.
When metabolism decreases its efficiency, he said, the body becomes vulnerable and increases the risk of being overweight, obese, anemia, diabetes, high blood pressure, heart attacks, embolism, osteoporosis and even some cancers.
Meanwhile, Dr. Sara Bistre, an anti-aging medicine specialist, said a sick person may experience premature aging of up to ten years compared to someone healthy.
“It’s true that we’ll all get older at some point, but it depends on our lifestyle how we conduct that process,” he said.
He indicated that the average age of a Mexican lives is 77 years, but according to the human genome we should live on average about 118 years.
He noted that the organism has about 50 trillion cells, which oxidize but are in the necessary condition. “These body oxidation processes damage cells and organs deteriorate over the years,” he said.
Bistre asserted that the current lifestyle, which includes sedentary lifestyle and a diet rich in fast food and processed foods, increase the chance not only of developing chronic degenerative diseases, but of prematureaging.
“We don’t have enough fruits, vegetables and cereals in our diet,” she said.
She also said that the obesity epidemic currently in countries such as Mexico is conditioning the emergence of conditions that lead to greater health issues for women.
Similarly, daily stress and lack of hours of sleep affect people to get older more quickly, so they recommended trying to reduce stress and sleep for at least six hours a day on an ongoing basis.
Finally, both experts recommended supplements containing omegas, zinc, flavonoids, vitamin C and vitamin E mainly, as well as iron, copper, chromium, and L-carnitine.
“Also, try to avoid salt, sugar, dairy and flours, and consume a lot of water. We have to be aware that we are what we eat,” Dr. Bistre said.
