translated from Spanish: Greta Thunberg’s disappointment at burning coal

Swedish environmental activist Greta Thunberg visited a controversial coal mine in western Germany on Saturday by surprise and criticized the rulers for “disappointing us.”
The message to the Executive of German Chancellor Angela Merkel, who has delayed until 2038 the closure of the country’s last coal mine despite how highly polluting this type of energy is, comes to add to the massive popular initiative that has been trying for years to and close hambach’s Rennana open pit mine, considered one of the three most polluting in Europe.
“Time is pouring down on us and rulers keep letting us down,” said Thunberg, the initiator of Friday student strikes around the world, after visiting the mine.
“It’s been very shocking, very bleak and makes me feel sad,” he added.
Called to push harder
Following the advice of experts, Thunberg added that Germany should stop using coal in its “mix”, one of its main energy sources today despite the uptick in renewables (as nuclear has been significantly reduced in the face of “blackout” 2021).
The 16-year-old Swedish activist also called on everyone to take part in the global general climate strikes called by the “Friday for the Future” movement for September 20 and 27.
“If enough people put pressure on us, we can try to promote change,” he argued.
The teenager plans to depart next week for the New York climate summit on a pollutant-neutral sailboat as she refused to fly through the CO2 she produces.
“I can’t change the climate emergency alone, but if I participate (at the meeting) I can help raise awareness of the crisis,” she said.
