Mexico.- Through a statement it was reported that Jesús Alfredo Salazar Ramírez “El Muñeco” or “El Pelos”, alleged operator of the Sinaloa Cartel, will stay for now in Mexico because a federal judge avoided his extradition.
The Chancellery ordered Salazar Ramirez, accused of the murder of a Movement for Justice and Dignity activist, to extradite to the United States, but Erik Zabalgoitia Novales, Judge Tenth District in Amparo Penal, granted the sonorense one suspension preventing its immediate transfer to that country, as indicated by the court’s list of agreements.
“In order not to harm the complaining party, … the complaining Jesús Alfredo Salazar Ramírez is granted the flat suspension of the act consisting of: the execution of the extradition order,” the agreement says with the communiqué
The suspensive measure shall prevail for several months, for until the protection is resolved at first instance and in its review, the alleged drug trafficker may not be extradited.
The Federal Court of the Western District of Texas ordered on August 24, 2006 the capture of “El Muñeco” for the crime of criminal association, for possessing with the intention of distributing 5 or more kilos of cocaine.
Based on that charge, the US Department of Justice processed the application for provisional detention for extradition purposes, which was issued by a federal judge in Mexico City on January 13, 2009.
