translated from Spanish: Commentator apologizes for comparing femicides and football

The sports commentator of Multimedios, Adrián Marcelo, apologized on Thursday after comparing a football play with a femicide during the broadcast of the match Pachuca vs Guadalajara.
“I would wholeheartedly like to offer an apology to all those who felt alluded to, offended by the comment. I hope through my stupidity, my unconsciousness you can open this debate in your respective spaces, that is, the impunity that is lived in Mexico,” he said in his program called … Mr. SNSerio.
Last Tuesday, Adry Marcelo criticized a move by Pachuca’s goalkeeper Rodrigo Rey, which provoked a Chivas goal. In the midst of transmission the commentator called the action “a mistake, it could practically be considered a femicide. It leaves her dead there in the area.”

After doing so and after the reviews he received, the commentator wrote on his Twitter account: “It’s always a good time to raise awareness of a problem that seems to have no end. #NiUnaMás”. The post has already been deleted.

But the criticism did not cease so Marcelo chose to offer apologies on his show.

“I say it honestly, yes it’s a joke, the kind of joke I’m used to making, I’m a human I can be wrong and this time I certainly did,” he said.
The commentator also said that his intention was to “apologise for something that is serious, but through a football event.”
Finally, Adrián Marcelo stated that hopefully this fact will continue to talk about femicides and such cases “do not stay in the locker and continue to do justice for those who have suffered such a loss”.
For his part, Enrique Mayagoitia, co-driver of the program, defended his partner and said that on social media they have misrepresented the intention of his comment that he was “merely footballing” and without intending to hurt susceptibility.
“I think what it’s worth more is the intention with which it’s done and at no time (Marcelo) does it in a sexist way, in a misogynistic way, in a way that makes fun of these facts,” Mayagoitia added.
