Foreign Minister Teodoro Ribera referred to the political crisis in Peru that on Monday ended with the dissolution of Congress by President Martín Vizcarra, and the appointment of the vice president Mercedes Aráoz, as interim representative of the former owner of the instance, Pedro Olaechea.
According to La Tercera, the Chancellery assured that they are in “direct contact” with Chile’s ambassador to Lima (Roberto Ibarra), and remain “very respectful of Peru’s internal situation”.
“We logically respect Peru’s internal processes absolutely. We cannot under any circumstances get involved in the current situation,” Ribera said.
The chancellor also said he hoped that the political tension in the neighbouring country “adequately decant”, and was confident that “Peruvian institutionality will be imposed in the terms that have been agreed”.
“Peru is our brother country, very significant, it gives us a common history, we have large communities in Chile of Peruvians and we have the best votes for the prompt solution of this problem,” the secretary of state concluded.
