89.5 percent of Peruvians support President Martín Vizcarra’s decision to dissolve the Congress, according to the first poll after the representative took the action a few days ago.
9.3 percent of respondents spoke out against the dissolution of Congress, dominated by the Fujimorist opposition, and only 1.2 percent responded that they did not know or did not answer.
Vizcarra dissolved Congress on Monday by invoking its constitutional powers, in order to end the recurring clashes of powers and obstructions of the Fujimorist majority, also criticized for the protection of officials and magistrates investigated corruption.
Congress denounced the “coup d’état” and after being disdissolved swore Vice President Mercedes Aráoz as “president in charge”, but she resigned the next day.
In the survey, commissioned by the newspaper Successful to the cpi poller, 89.1 percent of the respondents stated that Vizcarra is the “legitimate president”.
In addition, 85.1% support the “public performance” of Vizcarra, a provincial almost unknown when he took power in March 2018, following the resignation of Pedro Pablo Kuzcynski, cornered by Congress.
